This is very sad news indeed.
I have been hooked on Jack's wonderful humour since the early days of Disc. My plastic Fresco-Le-Raye dinosaur will remain one of my prized possessions forever.

I am very upset by Jack's passing and offer my deepest sympathies to Liz, Fred, Wendy and family.
Jack made a spectacular impact on my childhood and many of my happiest memories as I was growing up involved my time with him. Jack opened me up to an exciting and multicoloured world where games and light heartedness were central. Confronted by his vast mountain of board games and all the games consoles you could imagine, as well as being able to witness him bring his artistic creations to life, every day at Jack's house was like Christmas day. He wasn't so much a role model but rather the best and most exciting big brother a boy could wish for! Somehow when I was with him the world seemed a happier and more fun place to be.
While one chapter has now very sadly ended, the happy memories that I have of Jack live on and still feel as vivid and exhillirating as they did when I was a child.
Thank you Jack. I shall miss you.

A great friend and inventor of many worlds. He contributed so much to making my children Natasha and Matthew what they are today... absolutely splendid human beings. I loved him to bits even though he steadfastly opposed the revolution!
We will all miss him. My love and solidarity to Liz his family and to all who cherished him.

I knew Jack for over 30 years and in all that time he never changed. He was fun, mad, strange, weird, kind, loving and affectionate and a thousand other things. I was the star of many of the early Jack the Ripper films and have very fond memories of the cotton wool and ketchup make up, very glamorous!
Jack was unique friend and I loved him. I will miss him dreadfully and he will never be forgotten.
My heart goes out to Liz, Fred and Wendy and all his friends who are very sad.

Lovely man who has been someone who I've been proud of knowing for a long time. When my Aunty Wendy married Jacks brother Fred I was about 5 and I must have driven him mad pestering him to draw me pictures of batman, spiderman etc, but he didn't say no! My girls came to enjoy reading Fresco and the Wimo cards. I particularly liked the Silicones! When we heard of his illness I sent him an e-mail saying we were hoping for the best. In reply Jack said thanks and said it was 'hard typing with his fingers crossed!' Again making us laugh.
Lots of Love, the Shads

So sad to hear about Jack. For twenty five years I have heard stories of his doings and sayings, only occasionally meeting him, but always finding that the myth and man matched up perfectly.
My deepest sympathy to Fred and Wendy, and to Jack's wife.

I only met Jack once or twice briefly but I've admired his work for decades. His "Master Mind" and "Cliff Hanger" strips in BUSTER in the early 1980s were part of the inspiration that set me on a comic strip career. His pages were always a pleasure to read and unlike many comic artists he wrote his own material. Script and art (and his distinctive hand lettering) combined to make his strips unique and individualistic. Many cartoonists adapt to a "house style" but Jack had a style all his own, and a very professional one at that.
Truly one of the most distinctive and highly creative cartoonists that British comics have ever seen. Jack is at peace now but his work has ensured that he will never be forgotten by comic collectors or by his peers in the business.
