Thank you for the memories. My childhood would have been so different without you!

A brief, and slightly mis-printed obit to Jack appears in this month's UK Record Collector magazine (September 2007, with Elvis on the cover) near the back (p121 I believe).

I found this page today and was saddened to learn that Mr. Oliver had passed away. I was hoping to find copies of his work from 1972 - 1977 to complete my collection (I'll collect the earlier cartoons once I've filled in the gaps) so I'll check out the site a little more. If you have any Record Mirrors/Record Mirror & Discs/Discs for sale (or the JEO cartoon from them) please contact me

Very sorry to hear about the demise of a great, *really great* cartoonist.
I love his cartoons... I have never forgotten "I must remember when my eyes start to water, that although I've lost a son, I've gained a door tar." amongst other wonderful jokes and stories. I still agree that Tuesdays ought to be abolished - especially when the banner wielder is wearing a British Railways peaked cap...

I worked with Jack back in the GLC days (late sixties) and can remember what must have been one of his earliest comic mags 'Instant Garbage'. The first issue artworked and printed by Jack included a match for 'instant' disposal of the magazine. The issue also had one of his ditties - 'See a pin and pick it up and all day long you'll have ....a pin!' Potent words and needless to say I have never picked up a pin since.

I have been privileged to be his friend over the years enjoying his work and commissioning some cartoons for my employers' over the last few years. His talent was immense and has touched many and at the risk of annoying you Jack...God Bless ;-)

Jack was part of my life for more than 30 years and so often filled it with silliness, happiness, fun and laughter. I spent some time today looking back over the cards, cartoons and letters that he had sent me over the years and remembering him in his own inimitable way. I have many happy memories of our time together. He is irreplaceable.

I wish 'Happy Memories' to all those left behind who loved him and will miss him.

Dear Jack - A unique talent and a very special friend.

Sandra x

We have lived opposite Jack's bungalow for the last 39 years. Naturally we knew his mother Queenie and his father John very well. We know how proud they were of their gifted son and the happiness his talent with humour and cartoons brought so many people. In recent times he has been sending us two comic strips a week. We looked forward to receiving them, and the smiles they bought to our faces. He was a greatly loved and admired character in our road. He was rarely seen without his dog Flossie, and spoke to everyone. Jack had a wonderful wedding day with Liz which we all, his family and friends really enjoyed. We will all miss him. David and Kay. XXXXX.

I was lucky enough to have known Jack for 35-40 years, 14 of those intimately, and even after our relationship ended he remained a close friend and an integral part of my family. My heart goes out to Liz, Fred & Wendy.

I will remember Jack. among other things, as:

Warm-hearted, Witty, Weird & Wonderful
Intelligent, Innovative, Irrepressible and, sadly, Irreplaceable
Magician Extraordinaire at our parties and Mentor and friend
Original, One of a kind, Overflowing with ideas
Writer and Artist of unique abilities, Warthog awarder
Eccentric, Enthusiastic, Eternally youthful
Humorous, Heart-warming to be with, one Helluva guy

WIMOWEH - The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Sleep well Jack, I will always think of you with great love and affection.

I have many happy memories of Jack at this very sad time. He was important part of my childhood and he introduced me to so many things.
I am sure I would not have persued my artistic ambitions unless he had encouraged me. He helped me greatly by drawing some fun, cartoon fashion illustrations for my final degree show. I gave him a very vague brief of "jumping spice Girls" but as usual he came up trumps!
I will always appriciate how he based his Vid Kid cartoon strip on my brother Matthews and I's constant arguements and bickering over the remote control. He even made me laugh at things that I took very seriously at the time!
His fantastic games collection and videos have contributed to my own collecting too.
I also remember watching Jack's super 8 horror films and James Bond spoof (where I believe he really did hang from a second floor balcony!) The horror films were mainly watched behind a cushion!
I was priviliged to go to Jack and Liz's wedding and the great celebration of their love. I think also that Jack is the only person i know to look so stylish in his Green velvet jacket and Red kickers!
I also so grateful that we were able to see him on the day of his passing and be able to say our last goodbyes.
I send my love and thoughts to Liz, Fred and Wendy at this very sad time. I would also like to send my thoughts to Flossie the dog, a constant companion to her master til the end xxxxxx
