I went to school with a Fresco Le Raye Cartoon taped inside my work folder.
Guaranteed to make me smile
Thanks for it all

I remember his surreal picture of a sheep in a suit of armour standing next to an automobile which had headlights like big eyes and a smiling radiator grille - then on reading the text, I discovered the origin of the phrase "the ewe knighted states of a merry car" - brilliant!!

I used to read the Fresco le Raye strip religiously but alas it has become a distant memory. I agree with the person who said an anthology should be produced as I still miss that little 1 million year old dinosaur. I'm one of the lucky ones who not only got a reply after writing to Jack but I still have it in box somewhere and I'm now on a mission to dig it out. How could I forget about the plastic aardvaark and can anyone tell me the name of the place J. Edward Oliver used to mention frequently in his artwork? It was like Milton Keynes only more boring!

Loved buster as a little Fella, Abolish Tuesdays became an ethos. His quirky asides and rips of films and people were never contrived and always funny. Mad Microbes is ingenius. Much Love To JEO RIP

JEO got me into buying music papers when an issue of Disc was mistakenly delivered to my house in - about - 1974. I can't recall any of the acts featured, but I remember being hooked by Jack's page.
He also made me fail physics. My mum still has my exercise book, it's covers covered in tiny 'Instant Garbage' style doodles - the interior pages completely blank.
I just spent hours poring over this site and will return often. I hope you are able to keep updating it.
All the best to you. Love and sympathy to Mr Oliver's family and friends.

How strange. Quite randomly I was talking to a friend tonight about the brilliant cartoon strip in record mirror, with the aadvark prizes and later decided to look it up. So sad that my end of the night quest ended here.... but sleep peacefully Jack. Like the other guy above, you were the only reason I bought the magazine x
